JMHS Building Fall

Honor Band

Mr. Kenneth Sexton, freshman at JMHS, successfully auditioned for the Kentucky Music Educators Association District 9 Honor Band.  The clinic and final concert took place this past Dec. 12-14th in Paintsville.  The honor band was directed by Dr. Barry Krauss, Director of Bands at Belmont University.

The following three students were selected for the University of Kentucky Honor Band:  Hannah Robinson (freshman saxophonist), Marshall Gage (sophomore tuba), and Ken Sexton (freshman percussionist).  They will travel up to the University of Kentucky on the weekend of Feb. 2-4 to rehearse with band students from all over the state, go to masterclasses with UK music professors, learn about the college, and give a final concert.  Additionally, they will have the opportunity to hear the UK Wind Symphony perform John Mackey's new work, The Frozen Cathedral, as well as to meet the composer.
